Scarna Fishing: Back on the genesis of the chain with Tosh and Canito

Tosh and Canito from Scarna Fishing gave us the pleasure to answer our questions and come back to their journey, the channel and their upcoming projects.

Hello the Scarna Fishing team. For those who don't know you yet, could you briefly introduce yourself to our readers before we begin?

Hi all ! We are Anthony says "Tosh" and Jérémy says "Canito" and we animate the channel Youtube “Scarna Fishing” for more than 4 years now, even if we have been fishing for much longer!

How did you get this passion for fishing?

Canito: I came to fishing through my father who regularly took me and my brother to the water's edge.

Tosh: For my part, it was a childhood friend who took me with him to the water's edge. Then the knowledge followed one another, training me from an early age on trout streams, predatory lakes or even long rod fishing competitions.

How long have you been fishing together and how did you meet?

We've been fishing together for almost 15 years now, ever since we met in the same band. Canito being then guitarist and me drummer. Music remains a very strong second passion for us, even if we only practice it as an amateur in our spare time.

What drives you the most in fishing today?

I think that even before the number or the size of the grips, it is above all the “adventure” side that kicks us the most. Discover new spots, new regions, even new countries and meet great people through fishing. All of this is most important to us.

And then, of course, this goes hand in hand with our videos because it brings a certain diversity to our videos! Just making fish all the time would be a bit too rebarbating.

What fishing techniques do you practice most often?

Mainly lure fishing in its broadest sense. But we have nothing against a little match feeder, a dry evening or a night of carp from time to time!

What is your favorite fishing for each?

Canito: Top water and vertical fishing are for me the two styles of fishing that I like the most.

Tosh: If I had to keep only one style of fishing, it would be power fishing on marked positions. On spinner, chatter crank etc, most often on pike and perch.

I also particularly care about my small trout sessions in the mountains which often bring me back to basic values and remind me why I like being at the water's edge so much.

What is your favorite fish?

The same for us 2, the pike of course, the king!

Could you tell us a bit more about the history of the Scarna Fishing channel? What prompted you to create this Youtube channel?

Basically, the Scarna Fishing channel was just a way to keep a fishing diary on video, it was a little more fun than on paper!

I put my first videos in private on Youtube then one day I said to myself why not share them, maybe it could give some information to local fishermen who, like us at the time, had a little trouble getting "fresh" news on the state of fishing in our region.

Then quickly the counters got carried away, and the quality of our videos improved to give something more fun to watch.

What is your greatest pride today behind Scarna Fishing?

Our greatest pride with Scarna Fishing is to see that the chain sometimes tends to motivate or re-motivate people to take a rod and spend time at the water's edge.

Sometimes it comes from the uninitiated who come across our videos and who we make want to try. Sometimes it's former fishermen that we have managed to re-motivate and who often leave at 300%!

In both cases, the many testimonials we receive touch us and push us to always do better.

You who have had the opportunity to fish a lot all over France, to travel and to meet many people in the area, what is your view of the management of fishing in France?

Already in France, what is most striking is the great inequalities in fisheries management. Some departmental federations are very involved and have a real desire for development. And sometimes, conversely, the neighboring department will remain at a standstill by sticking to decades-old achievements.

At the national level, the FNPF seems unable to create a common sense of direction and seems rather preoccupied with issues that sometimes seem quite remote from the field.

Then, we think that the associative functioning of APPAMA remains fragile.

Everything works on everyone's free time and sometimes even on personal motivations. For subjects as important as the preservation of the resource and the protection of the aquatic environment, volunteering seems to be a flawed system in the long term.

Fortunately, we have a few federations and associations that manage to do a remarkable job on the ground and it's up to us to relay their actions via our videos!

What fish, destinations or fishing techniques would you like to discover?

We would like to turn a little more towards the sea, on the French coast but also why not in Exo:). Otherwise we will soon be going to Ireland to discover the meanders of the Shannon, a cult destination for pike, we can't wait!

We see you more and more through new video concepts, Canito on the craft of lures, … Do you have other projects that you would like to share with us for this year 2019?

For us, 2019 will be the year of the first "real" fishing trips, which will be broadcast in the form of mini series.

On the program there will be pike in Finland and Ireland, and surely a nice Exo trip at the end of the year but we still have a little surprise for our subscribers!
